TRACES

For my final year at OCAD I completed a thesis surrounding East and Southeast Asian American/Canadian labour histories with the guidance of my advisor Shea Chang.

Traces re-examines the often undocumented or removed histories of East and Southeast Asian displacement to America using imaginative imagery and dream logic. Traces explores diaspora, displacement, and immigration through imaginative and dreamlike imagery as a method of processing trauma. Diaspora is missing a place of origin that one imagines home could feel like. It it having a strained relationship to home. To be removed from the place of origin is to be unable to trace movement. Informed by my families histories, Traces re-examines the often undocumented or removed histories of displacement to America.

Televised Warfare

Hyper Consumption of sensationalized tragedy leads to unproductive guilt and distance from human suffering. At what point does a person become an abstract idea? From a human person, to a nameless body?
